Why Do Sanitary Pads Cause Rashes? Common Culprits and Avoidance Tips.
Share
Rashes from sanitary pads are more common than you might think. The usual suspects include plastic based top sheets, synthetic adhesives, artificial fragrances and moisture retention.
When your pad does not allow the skin to breathe, it creates a humid environment that becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. Add to that the constant friction from movement and you have the perfect setup for a rash.
To avoid this choose pads that are made from organic breathable materials, avoid scented pads and change your pad every 4 to 6 hours. Wearing breathable cotton underwear and washing the area with plain water during changes also helps.
